Dealer Training and Jobsite Photos

At Substrate Technology we take customer support and manufacturer training very seriously.  On this page you will find various training seminars and job-site pictures from places that we have visited to help our customers and dealers make the most of our products.  We have been offering this service for 10 years but have been a little lax in documenting this aspect of our company.

We plan to document every visit we make and place these visits here.  If you are a current customer, keep an eye out; you may see your face in lights.

Dealer Show for New Prep/Master Machines

In May of '06 STI released its new line of Prep/Master.  On hand were our various dealers from the United States Canada and Germany.  We wanted our dealers to view the new machines firsthand so they would be familiar with the changes we made as well understand how these changes were improvements.  To view the updated machines follow the link to our page devoted to the new Prep/Master.

Dealer Training in Klaipeda, Lithuania

On January 10th, STI had the privilege to demonstrate concrete polishing using the Prep/Master 3030 diamond grinder in Klaipeda, Lithuania.  On hand were attendees from Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Russia.  The seminar was a huge success and the concrete looked terrific; even if the language difference and being jet-lagged made it difficult to tell if we had everyone's attention.  We also had the opportunity to apply a stencil to the dealer's shop floor (pictured) which means 'Polished Concrete-What Could Be Better?'  On hand from STI were Josh and Holly Jones and from L&M Construction Chemicals, Deke Rife.

Dealer Training in Shanghai, China

On December 4th, STI traveled to Asia to provide concrete polishing samples on a large parking structure in Shanghai.  Our Chinese dealers were very happy with the sample and saw the same potential for polished concrete as we have here in the states.  As pictured, we had to improvise with the un-loading of the Prep/Master 3030 but it eventually made it to the ground; the wheelbarrow however had to be retired.  On hand from STI were Bill Jones and Eric Gallup and from L&M Construction Chemicals, Deke Rife.

Customer Training in Morris, Illinois

On November 30th we held a customer training seminar for 30 contractor's from various parts of the United States as well as Puerto Rico and Canada.  The seminar lasted two days and was a great success, despite the snow storm, power outage and floor scrubber feats of strength (click on the video link from YouTube).  We usually hold this type of seminar 3-4 times per year or more often if required.  Since our customer's never really know when they are going to be available, we do not schedule these seminars more than a month and a half in advance.  We do however hold 10-15 individual training sessions at the request of our customers.

St. Louis Job Site

On January 17th, Dave Wood visited a contractor in the Midwest to provide assistance for a large polish and stain job.  The project size was approx. 30,000SF and consisted of the following:
  1. First cut using a 3030 Prep/Master using the 3" 100 grit Terrazzo Pad.
  2. ]Subsequent cuts 200 through 3000 grit.
  3. Dye application.
  4. FGS Permashine application (2 coats)

Henry Ford Center MI

On January 11th, Dave Wood visited the jobsite of Advanced Terrazzo and Marble at the Henry Ford Center Museum.  At this job, the contractor used the STI-3030 Prep/Master, the STI Swing Machine, STI E-Z Polish and STI E-Z Seal.  This was an old terrazzo floor that required a 'spiff-up',and as you can see, the contractor had great success in bringing this dingy floor back to a thing of beauty.  Also, because of the use of the STI E-Z Seal, this floor is protected from stains and water infiltration.

Guynn Enterprises Casper, Wyoming

On September 15th Eric Gallup visited our new customer Freddie Guynn at his job in Casper, Wyoming.  This was a 20,000 square foot multi-purpose facility that was to be polished and dyed.  Our customer used his new 3030 Prep/Master in the snow and sleet to do the first cut before the walls or roof went on.  He saved his customer a $1.00 per square foot by doing the first cut this early (NO EDGES), even if he was a little frostbitten.

World Of Concrete 2007

The World of Concrete '07 was a huge success for our company.  The weather was perfect, customer traffic was plentiful and the polished concrete demonstration turned out flawless (even though the slab was frozen five days before).  Our booth consisted of our Prep/Master line of equipment, IMPACTS shotblast machines from Germany and Epoxy and Glass demonstrations by Terrazzo & Marble Supply Companies.

European distributor IMPACTS GmbH located just south of Cologne Germany

During the week of February 23rd, STI had the privilege of visiting customers of our European distributor IMPACTS GmbH located just south of Cologne Germany.  In Frankfurt, we worked with an exciting new flooring product in the hopes to establish a system for the finishing of this patented flooring product.  The results were favorable but more work needs to be done to perfect this product.  We also had the opportunity to install a concrete stencil using a customer provided template, DiaTech dye and FGS Permashine.  The floor was first cut using 100 grit Terrazzo pads and subsequently polished to a level 1500 grit.  The customer was very excited about offering this as a complement to their current business services.

Customer Job in Royal Oak, Michigan

On March 1st, Dave Wood visited one of our customer's in Royal Oak MI.  The project consists of 19,000SF of adhesive covered terrazzo flooring.  The customer is using the 3030 Prep/Master outfitted with the 80 grit Turbo cups.  The final finish of the floor will be a hone up to 200 grit and 2 coat application of wax.  Check back in April to see the finished product.

Heim Press in Chicago, IL

On March 8th Josh Jones visited The Heim Group in Chicago IL.  The Heim Group manufactures large stamping presses and has a need to productively and effectively clean the steel before it can be welded and painted.  The prior cleaning process consisted of using a hand grinder and stone wheel; a 200 square feet sheet was taking 3 days to completely prepare for welding.  Using the 2807 Prep/Master outfitted with 50/60 grit 2" stones we were able to completely remove the mill scale in about 2 hours.

Customer Job in Chugiak, Alaska

On March 14th Josh Jones visited a customer from Chugiak Alaska.  The customer has a 4430 Prep/Master that is to be used on a 16,000SF stain and polishing project.  The following pictures were taken during the beginning stages of the project since the customer just received approval of the sample area.  Also included are some pictures of the customers own floor at his house which contain glacial rock, marbles, decorative stone and acid stain.

Visited a Customer in Greenville, MI

On March 17th, Josh Jones visited a customer in Greenville MI to offer advice and assistance in applying penetrant dyes.  We used Substrate Technology's DiaTech dye and L&M's Vivid Dye in the sample area.  The floor was initially cut using the 50 Terrazzo pads and will ultimately have a 1500 grit finish applied.  Check back for some finished project pictures.

Visited a Customer in Connecticut

On March 19th, Josh Jones visited a customer in Connecticut to provide an FGS Permashine sample for owner's approval.  The facility is a 40,000SF project that is currently covered in Cure-N-Seal and is exhibiting excessive tire marking problems and an overall un-appealing appearance.  The purpose of the mock-up was to provide a clean, consistent surface that the facility owner will use for approximately two months to determine if this finish can withstand the forklift traffic and still retain its easy-to-clean and reflective surface.

A visit from a potential customer from Turkey

On March 21st, Substrate Technology had the honor of having potential customers in from the country of Turkey.  The company has some very large terrazzo projects on their schedule and wanted to see a demonstration of our machinery and diamond tooling.  Used in the process was the STI-4430 Prep/Master outfitted with Turbo Cups, 100 grit Terrazzo pads, 200-800 REDZ pads, an application of E-Z Polish and finished off with E-Z Seal.  Great results were achieved and it looks like our next stop will be Istanbul!

A visit to a contractor in Burlington, Vermont

On March 26th, Josh Jones visited a customer in Burlington Vermont.  The customer has been grinding and acid-staining concrete for many years and has recently added concrete polishing to his repertoire.  The pictured project is a store that is about 3,500SF, that will be aggressively ground to remove adhesive residue and final polished to 1500 grit.  The customer prefers to cut the floors wet up to 400 grit because he has modified a vacuum system that introduces clean, pressurized water jets the surface clean.

A visit to a contractor in Minneapolis, Minnesota

On April 9th, Dave Wood visited a contractor in Minneapolis Minnesota.  The contractor had to provide a sample on a 7,000SF project polished to a level 800 grit.  The slab was in good shape so the first cut was done using a 120 grit 10S diamond and finished off with the 800 grit Premium Plus diamond.

A visit to a contractor in Fargo ND

On April 11th, Dave Wood visited a contractor in Fargo ND.  The job was a 7,000SF, new, screeded concrete slab.  The slab was screeded so the aggregate would be exposed quickly before taking the slab to a finished 800 grit.  Pictured are a couple shots of the contractor cleaning the joints, filling with polyurea and then the finished surface after grinding the excess off with 30 grit 10S segments.  Finished project pictures will be posted as soon as we get them.

A visit to a contractor in Dodge Center, Minnesota

On April 13th Dave Wood and Josh Jones visited a contractor in Dodge Center Minnesota.  The customer had to provide a 4,000SF sample area of polished and dyed concrete using his new STI-3030 Prep/Master and our DiaTech stains.  As seen, the 50 year old floor was in need of a good grinding before it could be dyed and polished.
